Our Beliefs

OUR VISION

The vision of the Church of Christ in Lexington is to reach out to children and families in our community by cultivating a safe, encouraging and relevant environment to connect with the extraordinary life found in Jesus.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to share the hope of Jesus through serving God, loving people, building relationships, and changing lives.

OUR BELIEFS

We believe in one God, the Creator of everything, existing eternally in three persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe that as God He is perfect and just, giving justice, forgiveness and healing.

(Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,14; John 14:26; 1 Peter 1:2)

We believe that The Son, Jesus, came from heaven to be one of us, to experience life and death and ultimately to willingly suffer the punishment of our evil actions for us. We believe that He rose from death to life and that he now offers forgiveness for all who desire it. He has promised to return one day to rescue those who love Him and make all things right.

(John 1:1-18; Acts 2:22-41; Philippians 2:1-11)

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the person of God who gives us power to live life to the full. He can direct us through conscious, the Word of God (the bible), or the gathering of believers (the church). The Holy Spirit is given to all believers and he equips them with abilities and gifts for use in their ministry.

(Luke 11:13; John 16:13; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:11)

We believe that the Bible is from God for our instruction. It offers insight into the satisfaction, purpose, fulfillment and relationships of our lives. It is accurate and reliable and to be followed and obeyed by all who follow Jesus.

(2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19-21)

We believe that a human being’s central purpose for existence is to have a close and personal relationship with God. We are created for that purpose. As humans we defied God, choosing to go our own independent way, and because of this were separated from Him. This ‘separation’ took place at the beginning of human history, and all individuals since have been separated and are in need of God’s forgiveness and grace. We all can be forgiven by God and have a close, personal relationship with Him by believing that Jesus is God’s son, repenting of our sin, confessing our faith in Jesus’ power to save us, and being immersed in water as an outward sign of our inner faith.

(John 3:16; Acts 2:38; Romans 3:23, 10:9; 1 John 1:9)
